Visiting London soon....I need some help please?

  • So...I'm turning 18 really soon and as a gift my parents are taking me to london for just 2 days. Now, this is what I've found so far:

    The London Bridge

    Big Ben

    Westminster

    Saint Paul Cathedral

    Tate Museum

    British Museum

    Regents Park

    Piccadilly

    Soho

    Convent Garden

    London Dungeon

    Notinghill

These are a few places that seemed interesting. What I need to know is which of these places are really important and beautiful because it's impossible to visit them all in just 2 days. Also if someone actually is from London it would be really helpful if you could tell me which places are closer to which places so I don't waste a lot of time on transportation.

Also could someone recommend me somewhere rather cheap to go shopping? I heard Notinghill has practically everything but I'm not sure.

Thank you so much for your help.

  • If I were you I would give Notting Hill a miss, Nothing in Regents park except a zoo, Soho is not a place take your parents, Big Ben & Westminster are the same place

  • I would do:

Westminster Abbey (Big Ben is right there so you can see that too)

Tower of London (see the Crown Jewels)

    British Museum

    Covent Garden

    St Paul's Cathedral

For shopping I would probably go to Oxford Street, there is tons of stuff there from big dept stores to smaller shops.

  • you need to go to camden lock market

  • I like to stay in London's Southbank. Itâ ™s within easy walking distance from Covent Garden, Soho, Westminster and the City of London. If you are only staying two days you need to be as close as possible to the sights.

Thereâ ™s a great selection of cafes, bars and restaurants for all budgets. For shopping try the Oxo Tower building and Gabrielâ ™s Wharf, youâ ™ll find contemporary jewellery, fashion, cafes and restaurants.

Try and visit as many of the free attractions as you can, such as Tate Modern, Science Museum, Changing the Guard and Westminster Abbey. The London Eye is a really popular attraction; if you do choose to take a ride it⠙ll cost you around £15 and last half an hour. You⠙ll get spectacular views across London and its famous landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament, St. Paul⠙s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. You can pre-book tickets online and get 10% discount. My only advice would be to do this first thing, I went at the end of the day and saw all the attractions I spent hours walking too by foot!

  • I spent my 25th Birthday in London last month, its such a fantastic city, get a day travel pass for 2 days for zone 1 and 2 about 8 pounds approx I paid, Go to CAMDEN TOWN on a saturday if you can its superb, amazing market, thousands of people like a beautiful Carnival, also go to Portebello Market that is superb too, Camden town is on the Northern Line Tube Train the Black colour train. GUD LUCK AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY

  • tell your parents that two days is not long enough, and not worth the airfare.

you will waste one day to jet lag and another day preparing for the return.

edited to add: i would see buckingham palace, and the stuff around big ben, parliament, westminster abbey. trafalagr square, covent garden.

then i would go to see the tower of london and london bridge.

then i would see the globe theatre.

then i would see hampton court.

  • Wow... Unfortunately two days isn't nearly enough time to see all the interesting stuff in London.

Skip the London Dungeon--it's an overpriced tourist trap. If you want to see the real thing go to the Tower of London which is conveniently placed right next to the Tower Bridge, which is what most people mean when they say London Bridge.

Unless you are really into modern art I'd skip the Tate modern (there are actually two tates, the modern being more famous) though it's just a short walk from St. Pauls.

The British Museum, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Parliament (which includes Big Ben) Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden and the National Gallery/Trafalgar square are all in a relatively compact area in the center of town. You can walk between them, but to save time and prevent yourselves from getting totally exhausted you can aso zip along on the Tube--which is generally quite efficient. You could theoretically visit all of them in a really epic day of sightseeing (though you might need four days to recover afterwards). Regents Park is also undeniably pleasant, though I don't know if you'll want to do it during the winter.

Cheap shopping and London are not generally two things you hear associated with one another, but for shopping in general Oxford street (north of piccadilly) and Herrod's are your main attractions.

Also make sure you get an Oyster card or an all day pass for the tube-- single journey tickets are rediculously expensive.
