testing demo, few questions

  • I am setting up a private site I will need to set up a few Super mods, and mods. Super mods main job will be to check new users for registration, then upgrade status to get onto the main site. How can I list all members in one usergroup. I can see how you can search usergroups in the admin side, but I didn't want to give mods all that power

Question 2, how can I ban email addresses? Hotmail, yahoo, aol, all the free stuff.

I am sure I will have a few more questions as I look over things.

  • Yes you can do them with vbulletin. Very easy to do.

  • To get vB support on these forums you first need to be a licensed customer and register for Priority Forum Support. To do this, please go here:

    http://members.vbulletin.com/membersupport_priority.php

...and enter your email address in one of the boxes. You'll need to have your customer number and password to access the page.

Once you've done this, please post in the appropriate support forum for your version.

  • Sorry perhaps I should have worded my questions a little better.

Will I be able to do these things with this program, or are there mods available to do what I want. Or should I go looking for another program to buy?

  • Actually that option shows all registered users, with the most recent new users at the top.

  • Sorry my questions were not worded properly, but you did answer them for me.

The site I am converting has over 3000 members, I plan to put them all in one user group. They are the only ones who will see the site, not a public site. (not bad of size by word of mouth) Mods and admins willk be in charge of chekin new registratons, and moving to the main usergroup. I noticed the search new registrations section. It there a way to timestamp that?

I think that is about it, time to buy. now I got to decide what package is right for our needs

I am sorry you have not received very useful answers in this thread. :(

Moderators and Super Moderators cannot directly edit user accounts. There are indirect ways to do what you want that I think you will find satisfactory. If you must allow someone to manage user accounts, then you'll need to promote them to Administrator. You can remove some but not all of the powerful features of AdminCP by adjusting the Administrator Permissions assigned to their account.

Now what about those indirect ways?

You can set Posts, Threads, Attachments, and Calendar items to an approval (moderation) process. This means users can post messages, attachments, etc. but they will not be seen by the public until they are approved by a moderator, super moderator, or administrator. You can then setup an automatic Usergroup Promotion where after a user has been registered X number of days and/or a user has posted X number of messages which have been approved and/or a user has received X number of positive reviews (reputation), they can be promoted in usergroup.

What many of us do to control spam is setup the base Registered group so that their posts are not seen by the public until they are approved. Then setup a usergroup promotion so once 1-2 of their posts have been approved, they get bumped into a group called Registered (Confirmed) which has less restrictions.

Finally, you can create Publicly Joinable Usergroups which users can request to join and moderators can approve that. You can setup these usergroups to do pretty much anything as far as more permissions, hide/show forums, etc., and users can be a member of more than one usergroup at the same time thru Secondary Usergroups.

AdminCP -> Users -> Search is the only way I know to search by usergroup that is built into the product. Because there are a lot of functions in the front-end of vBulletin that allow you to figure out which usergroup a user is in (you can use is_member_of() just about anywhere), I would imagine there are some free plugins at vBulletin.org that allow you to search by usergroup or some other satisfactory method.

vBulletin is fantastic, but user management by moderators is one of those few holes that I hope is fixed in 4.0. :)

Question 2, how can I ban email addresses? Hotmail, yahoo, aol, all the free stuff.
It is frowned upon to provide tech support for people using the admin demo because then people can just get a warezed version and get free support from us. What I can tell you is that it is very easy to ban all or part of an e-mail address (it matches from the RIGHT to LEFT so you can ban @aol.com, @yahoo.com, or even a whole TLD like .biz, .info, etc.) as well as banning IP addresses or IP address ranges.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
