About a month ago I attended a job Interview which at the time I felt it had gone very well. I passed the tests and at the end of the interview was escorted around the company to see what sort of work they do.
about 2 weeks later I recieved a letter to say I was unsuccessful. :( but they would be recruiting again in January and would keep me in mind.
From your experience, are they just trying to be nice and will never consider me or do they usually mean what they say?
Usually, they are just trying to be nice. They will reconsider you, but most likely will reject you for the same reason in the future. The only time when this is not true is when you were the #2 candidate, and #1 does not work out.Several years ago I was in the running for a job-a very small place. It was down to me and another candidate, and they chose her. The manager told me that he would keep my resume on his desk-3 months later another job opened and I had it.
Unfortunately, I have gotten several of those letters you have received. I think some companies' letters are total b.s., but others are sincere. If this is a place that is highly competitive, your chances are probably low. That is what has happened to me. Keep it in mind, but keep applying for other jobs.
And tell yourself that you got very far this time, so you do have what it takes to get a job. This all depends on the company's policies. Some company's show every interview around; not just the good ones. Just company policy. Either way, if you really wanted this job, I would not wait for them to contact you. In January, call the person who interviewed you to let them know that you are still available, and interested in the job, if another position is open. Ask if they would consider having you in for a second interview. And unless they flat out tell you no, then don't give up. We're in tough economic times right now, and employers are feeling pinched, just like the rest of us. Good luck! What you received is a form rejection letter. Your application may be kept on file for a while. Then they do house cleaning and they keep only the latest one. If they decide to from an application in this file they generally only look at the latest applications. I suggest you move on in your search for a jobI dont think they are just trying to be nice. Since they gave you the tour, you were probably a close candidate for the job. I would send them a thank you letter, mentioning why you think you are perfect for the job, and thank them for their time. January 1, 2009, i would send out another letter, email if that has been the way you've been communicating, and ask for a follow up interview. good luck.Sounds like a bs company I personally wouldn't want to do business with.
