May I know how can I build my own laptop?
I need all links where I can buy all accesories like I buy for desktop.
Best Regards,
KannaiyanThe ECS Desknote is the closest thing to a DIY laptop, but it's heavy,
and doesn't have an easy to use battery. The only other way is to
design every component, but that means you have to invest in the R&D,
and find a production facility that will make your custom motherboard
in units of 1 - it'll cost about $4000 for a laptop that you could get
from Dell for $800.I know this comment is a bit late but it can be done. It will be
about the same dimentions as an industrially built one but be about
twice as thick. This works, I know from first hand experiance. The
MB should be a Mini-ITX form factor, now one should probably use the
EPIA MS series-- low profile, standard, very low power, everything on
board. These boards are easy to find, the MS series will be out soon
so they will be too. With this board there is no floppy channel so an
external usb floppy will have to be mounted inside the case; the same
for a PCMCIA card slot. (I used the MII series with floppy and PCMCIA
onboard but it added 1" to the thickness.) Use an external universal
battery mounted inside. Laptop drives are easy to find as well as
ram. The slim drives do need the adapter but these are not too hard
to find. The screen should be an LCD "kit" that comes with inverter,
controller, PSU, and cables. For the KB and mouse there is a
"Slim-Mini" keyboard out by Zippy and just buy a touchpad to mount
below it. Gateway occasionally sells a laptop style KB-MS combo that
looks a lot better. The hard part will be custom building the case
and figuring out where to run all the cables. That's it.Sorry I forgot the PSU. You can get a daughterboard PSU from
mini-itx.com, just plug the battery into it.You may want to purchase the May CPU magazine. It has an entire
section on building your own laptop: Debunking the Black Box.http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/compare.aspx/notebooks?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs
Get a dell. You cant build your own but dell will make one that you
like.Dear Kannaiyan,
